Apple is known worldwide for making technology-based and modern design products. However, their latest product is quite different. Many people find this Apple product strange.
Apple has named their new product ‘iPhone Pocket’. This product made of ribbon (strap) fabric looks a lot like socks. Apple has created it jointly with famous Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake.
In a statement on Tuesday, Apple said that they have taken such an initiative inspired by the ‘idea of creating extra or additional pockets’.
According to a CNN report, this ‘pocket’ made to fit any model of Apple’s iPhone will be released on Friday. It will be available in different colors.
Apple’s Vice President of Industrial Design Molly Anderson said, ‘Apple and Issey Miyake create designs with an emphasis on craftsmanship. This innovative pocket is a reflection of that idea. It fits naturally with our products and is a new and beautiful way to carry everyday essentials, including iPhones and AirPods.
However, many are surprised to hear the price of the product. Apple said that the price of the small version of this pocket has been set at $ 149.95 and the price of the long or large version has been set at $ 229.95 (about 28 thousand taka).
However, various discussions and criticisms have already started on social media regarding the price of this product. On social media X, someone wrote, “A pair of cut socks costs $ 230! Apple fans will pay for everything if it has the Apple name.”
Another user jokingly compared the iPhone pocket to the neon-green mankini outfit of Sacha Baron Cohen’s (popular actor and comedian) character Borat. He posted two pictures side by side and wrote, “Same vibe.”
However, some are looking at the concept of this Apple product differently.
Technology analyst MG Sigler described it as “an incredibly expensive sock” in his Spyglass newsletter, saying that the idea behind it is more important.
Sigler wrote that Isi Miyake was one of Steve Jobs’ favorite fashion designers. The product is part of an ongoing trend of gradually transforming the iPhone into a “wearable” device.
Sigler added that where runners once wore bands around their wrists, many people now use straps to carry their iPhones every day. Earlier this year, Apple introduced the iPhone Crossbody Strap, which costs $59.
“It’s just another accessory—it adds a bit of color and novelty to your outfit,” Sigler said.
